Challenge:
The project faced multiple challenges. The existing road lighting used 400W High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps, which were energy-inefficient and led to high electricity costs. The lighting uniformity was poor, and severe glare posed a safety hazard for drivers, increasing the risk of nighttime accidents. Furthermore, the traditional HPS fixtures required frequent maintenance and were difficult to upgrade, placing an additional burden on municipal management. The client needed an energy-saving, high-efficiency, and easily maintainable solution to improve road lighting quality and reduce long-term operational costs.
Requirement:
The client’s primary requirements included:
-
Energy Savings: Replace the high-power HPS lamps to significantly reduce energy consumption and electricity expenses.
-
Enhanced Lighting Performance: Improve road surface illumination uniformity and reduce glare to ensure driver safety.
-
Easy Maintenance: Implement a modular design for simplified future maintenance and upgrades, minimizing downtime.
-
Environmental Sustainability: Utilize LED technology to support Malaysia’s green energy initiatives.
Our Approach:
We provided a tailored 200W modular LED street light solution specifically for the Kayu Ara road environment. Key measures included:
-
Product Model Selection: Implemented the 200W modular LED street light, with key parameters:
-
Solar Panel: 1153×395mm, 5V-85W
-
Battery Capacity: 3.2V/60000mA LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate, ensuring long lifespan and high efficiency)
-
Product Dimension: 1158×400×165mm, Pole inner diameter 60MM for easy installation and adjustment
-
LEDs: SMD5050-1W, 213 pcs, providing high-brightness and energy-efficient illumination
-
Material: Anti-rust aviation steel, enhanced durability for Malaysia’s humid climate
-
Working Mode: Always On + Remote Control + Light Control + Timer, enabling smart control and automatic adjustment based on ambient light
-
Charging Time: 4-6 hours, Discharging Time: 12 hours, ensuring all-night power supply
-
-
Technical Optimization: A secondary optical design lens was used to precisely distribute light, enhancing road surface uniformity and minimizing glare. The modular structure allows for rapid component replacement, significantly simplifying maintenance.
-
Implementation: We worked closely with JKR on site assessment and installation testing, ensuring the lighting layout provided maximum coverage for the H-series roads. Local teams were trained for routine maintenance.
-
Project Model:
Outcomes:
The project delivered significant, quantifiable results post-implementation:
-
Energy Efficiency: The 200W LED lights replaced the 400W HPS lamps, reducing energy consumption by 50%, with an estimated annual electricity saving of over 30%, cutting client’s power costs.
-
Lighting Improvement: Road surface illumination uniformity improved by approximately 40%, and glare was reduced by 50%. This contributed to enhanced nighttime driving safety and significantly improved visual comfort as reported by drivers.
-
Maintenance Efficiency: The modular design reduced maintenance time by 30%, shortened upgrade cycles, and lowered lifecycle costs by an estimated 20%.
-
Environmental Benefit: The use of LiFePO4 batteries and solar support reduced carbon emissions, aligning with Malaysia’s Net Zero 2050 goal.
